Joe's Story

Although being born into a loving and supportive family I was quickly targeted by the local gang and groomed into the criminal fraternity, plunging my formative years and early adulthood into a world of violence , drug use, drug dealing, imprisonment and sections. After a diagnosis which identified Asperger’s syndrome, psychosis and bi-polar, the correct medication, support and relationship based interventions were put in place, so I am fully in long term active recovery.

Why I joined Revolving Doors

The challenges I have faced, and the missed opportunities for support, have motivated me to becoming involved with Revolving Doors Agency, and in particular with the Lived Experience Team with NHS England’s Liaison and Diversion Programme. I see its real value in supporting people with vulnerabilities to engage with services and as such I am delighted to share my life experience to build a better service. And thankfully with the support from the Revolving Doors team I have been able to make the transition from peer to professional and support Revolving Doors in their ground breaking work with service user involvement.
