Making the Difference: the role of adults social care in supporting vulnerable offenders

A joint briefing paper with the Prison Reform Trust, Centre for Mental Health and the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADASS) which outlines the opportunities for social care leaders to develop effective, co-ordinated care for for vulnerable people in, or on the edge, of the criminal justice system. 

Healthcare in police custody: Users' views

This briefing paper has been developed with people who have experience of detention in police custody while requiring support for physical and mental health issues or a learning disability.  It presents a number of suggestions for how the experiences and outcomes of service users could be improved, including screening and assessment procedures, healthcare treatment while in police custody and post-custody support. 

Supporting vulnerable offenders at custody and in court: an update for the voluntary and community sector 

This briefing provides an overview of general healthcare, mental healthcare and substance misuse services in custodial settings and at court.  It outlines existing arrangements in these areas as well as current and anticipated changes along we four key steps that VCS organisations working with vulnerable offenders can take to engage with the new health commissioning landscape.

Hope Inside: Mental health projects in the criminal justice system (2013)

The report is an evaluation of service user views of five projects funded by the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation. The research was conducted by members of our National Service User Forum.

Toolkit for developing a community of practice (2013)

Revolving Doors Agency and the Social Care Workforce Research Unit at King's College, London, have developed a toolkit for all those who are interested in establishing a community of practice for frontline practitioners in health, housing, criminal justice and social care agencies.

This is a hands-on practical guide covering all aspects of setting up a community of practice including choosing a facilitator; recruiting participants; undertaking case-based learning; introducing research evidence into your community; and overcoming challenges. It also includes two example case studies.

Little Miracles (2013)

'Little Miracles: Using Communities of Practice to improve front line collaborative responses to multiple needs and exclusions'. This report outlines the findings from the Communities of Practice Development Programme, which we ran jointly in 2012 with King's College, London.

New and Innovative Approaches to Supporting People with Complex Needs (2012)
